Similan Islands (Thailand) March 2001
Me and my friends Olle and Vannessa left Phuket to live on a boat in Similan Islands for
three days. I did a lot of diving and saw lots of things, among lots
of other things Barracudas and Leopard shark (my first shark!). Here I
also did my first night dive which was an awesome experience. There
were thunder and lightening in the distant so once in a while the
whole black ocean lit up and you could see everything and then it
went dark again - totally amazing. Me and my diving instructor Sandra came
really close to a very big and fat Murray eel down there. The thing
when it is dark is that you can get some surprises when you turn your
flashlight and all of a sudden stare right into the eyes of some big
monster. The murrays especially are a bit scary when you come to close.
The
islands are very nice and since there is no accomodation out here
there are no people at all on the beaches which is a great relief. One
day I took a kayak and paddled in to a very nice beach to do some
running in the sand. It was a wonderful feeling beeing there in this
paradise. I hurt my foot a bit though on that beach (mental note: do not use a
coconut as a football even though you might be childish and in
a good mood because IT HURTS!)
